Fulton County, Ga. — A woman whose son was mauled to death by a pit bull terrier wants Georgia lawmakers to ban the breed from the state.

WSB-TV reports Angela Rutledge began her campaign to ban pit bulls after her 2-year-old son was mauled to death by her family's dog in April 2012. The Fulton County woman headed Tuesday to the steps of the state capitol in Atlanta.

Rutledge says she has concluded pit bulls are "an aggressive breed" that can pose a danger even to their owners.

She was being joined at the statehouse rally by Jeff Borchardt of Wisconsin, who founded the group Daxton's Friends for Canine Education and Awareness after his 14-month-old son was killed by pit bulls, WSB-TV reported.

Coe Lewis... God has nothing to do with this. Pit bulls should not be banned from any state or county. They are simply the breed to pick on. Before them it was the german shephered, the rottweiler spent their time being picked apart as well. What some folks dont understand is...if you give your state or county the authority to start banning breeds it wont stop with the pit bull. Look at denver colorado, they placed a ban on all pit bulls, mixed and pure breed. They did it with such a broad stroke of the pen it was actually frightening. They went door to door collecting family pets, whether or not they ever had any attack or bite history was irrelevant, they took them anyhow and killed them. Is this really the kind of power you want to give to your state or county? Because today its the pit bull, but next it could be the breed of dog you own and love.
