Report: Manchester First Aid Squad Calls Dip, Miles Driven Up

Monthly report from squad was delivered to Township Council this week

Though the number of calls for assistance received by the Manchester First Aid and Rescue Squad dipped from June to July, volunteers nonetheless drove over 200 miles more compared to the previous month. 

Volunteers responded to 211 calls in July, down from 218 in June, according to a productivity report prepared for the Township Council by Edward Lynch, the squad's publicity officer. 

"Mr. Lynch, thank the members for everything they do for us," said Council President Craig Wallis after being presented with the report at the governing body's regular meeting this week. "I always appreciate you giving this report, because it shows just how much time people put into this and they do it for free, just volunteering."

Despite the decrease in calls, responders drove ambulances and the First Responder Unit 2,642 miles throughout Manchester's nearly 83 square miles of land, up from 2,403 in June, according to Lynch. 

The downturn in July calls meant that volunteers put in 93 fewer hours than in June, as responders spent 715 hours assisting residents, according to Lynch.
