Fundraiser Wednesday for Fallen Manchester Marine's Memorial Fund

Percentage of sales at Toms River Chili's will go to Cpl. Nicholas S. Ott Memorial Fund

When presented with a flyer, a portion of sales made at the Toms River Chili's on Wednesday will go toward the memorial fund of a U.S. Marine from Manchester who was killed in action last year.  From 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 29, 10 percent of bill totals will be donated to the Cpl. Nicholas S. Ott Memorial Fund when the flyer in this article's media box is presented at the 1315 Hooper Ave. restaurant. Ott was killed in August 2011 while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan's Helmand province at 23 years old.  "He gave the ultimate sacrifice so we can do something for him," said Township Council President Craig Wallis when he notified residents about the fundraiser during his report at the governing body's regular meeting Monday.  …

A Mass and burial service for U.S. Marine Cpl. Nicholas S. Ott of Manchester, who was killed on Aug. 10 in Afghanistan, was held Friday at Saint John's Roman Catholic Church in Lakehurst.

It wasn't supposed to end this way. But U.S. Marine Cpl. Nicholas S. Ott finally came home today, his body laid to rest as a Mass and burial service celebrated his life. A Mass for Ott, a Manchester native who was killed on Aug. 10 in Afghanistan, was held Friday at Saint John's Roman Catholic Church in Lakehurst, one day after hundreds of mourners paid their respects during a public viewing at the same location. Brian George, 38, who served in the U.S. Air Force for 18 years, was one of the many onlookers lining Myrtle Avenue in the borough to say goodbye as Ott's procession exited the church and traveled toward Route 70 on its way to the Brigadier General William C.
