Local Gas Prices Continue to Fall

Prices down 7 cents from a week ago

Area gas prices continue to drop, as the local average price for a gallon of regular is now $3.27, a 7-cent decrease from the same time last week.  Oil prices had been dropping over the last several week on less than encouraging economic news. However, late week trading saw oil climb over $82 a barrel after reports show that U.S. GDP growth was higher than expected. This represents the fourth consecutive week that prices have fallen in the area.  As usual, local motorists have it better than their national counterparts, with the national average for a gallon of regular at $3.46 on Thursday night, according to AAA. Manchester and Lakehurst residents are paying twelve cents less than the average Garden State driver, as the New Jersey average…

Gas Prices Remain Steady

Local are paying $3.49 average for a gallon of regular this week

Local gas prices remained steady this week, as the average price for a gallon of regular is only a 1-cent difference versus this time last week. Motorists in Manchester and Lakehurst are now paying about $3.49 a gallon, compared to $3.50 last Friday. The price of a barrel of oil has remained comparable to last week as well, with current trades around $87 a barrel, nearly in line with last week’s $88.  The barrel of oil price started the day above the $88 mark, but dropped below that as the U.S. dollar has gained some strength on the euro and investors weigh in on the expected impact of the plans President Barack Obama outlined in his job speech on the economy. Locals continue to get the better end of the deal when filling up their cars …

For some time now I have been reading articles pertaining to comments on high gas prices, huge oil company profits and government issues which are very interesting. No offence; but the comments have not changed the ridicules price we am paying at the gas pump, including groceries and clothes etc. I do not think the higher powers are listening nor do they give a crap. Families need away to save a …   more ›

Local Average Gas Price Up 10 Cents from Last Week

Prices for a gallon of regular up as Labor Day Weekend nears

One week after local gas prices managed to stay stable as locals prepared for Hurricane Irene, motorists are now paying 10 cents more per gallon of regular to fill up their tanks.  The Friday average at the six Manchester and Lakehurst gas stations is $3.50. The price of a barrel of oil rose above $88 during the past week of trading, which is common in the lead-up to holiday weekends such as Labor Day. In addition, some rigs in the Gulf of Mexico have been shut down due to Tropical Depression 13, reducing the supply of oil. The increase may not last, however, as Friday morning oil trading saw prices drop below $86 in light of a weak U.S. jobs report. Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline on Friday morning is $3.65…

Manchester Gas Prices Drop for Second Week

Local gallon of gas average at $3.76

Gas prices decreased in Manchester and Lakehurst for the second straight week, signaling that perhaps locals have already seen the worst of summer gas prices.  The local average for a gallon of regular gasoline is $3.76 as of late Friday morning, a 6-cent decrease from the same time last week. The drop in local prices comes as local gas stations are beginning to reflect the drop of barrel of oil price, which has eased off of the year high of $113 for a barrel and has been averaging just a shade under $100 a barrel during the last week. Local gas stations are charging an average of 11 cents less per gallon than their national counterparts, as AAA reported the national average for a gallon of regular to be $3.87 as of Friday morning. The New…

After Months of Increases, Gas Prices See Drop

Average price sees 3-cent decrease from last week

For the first time since Manchester Patch began monitoring area gas prices, locals are paying less for a gallon of regular then they were the previous week.  The average price as of late Friday morning is $3.82 for a gallon of regular, a 3-cent decrease from the same time last week. The decrease comes as gas stations are beginning to reflect last week’s drop in price for a barrel of oil.  Oil has averaged approximately $100 a barrel over the last week, coming down from a peak of $113. Motorists may not have to wait much longer to see more of a price decrease at the pump. Navi Bachen, manager of the Exxon located at Route 37 and Commonwealth Boulevard, said that he believes cheaper gas will arrive before the end of the month. "It will be $3…

Gas Prices May Have Peaked, Expert Says

Oil industry analyst says summer prices could stay under $4 per gallon

The steady rise in gasoline prices during the last seven months may finally be slowing to a halt, one analyst said Monday. The cost of a gallon of gas has increased steadily since October, but may have reached its peak, said Ben Brockwell, an oil industry analyst with the Oil Price Information Service – an oil industry news service based on Route 138 in Wall. Current prices at the pump could be what drivers will pay later this summer, Brockwell said. “My personal view is that I think prices have peaked for the summer, but they’re not going to drop very much,” Brockwell said. “But there are a lot of people that disagree with me.” The national average for a gallon of regular gas is $3.96, according to the Automobile Association of Amerca. …

Oil Price Drop Not Yet Reflected At The Pump

Relief may be near

Gas prices locally rose to $3.85 for a gallon of regular, a 4- cent increase over this time last week, even as oil prices decreased. The Associated Press reported that the price of oil fell about $10 yesterday, or 9 percent, closing under $100 for the first time since March. Historically, the price at the pump lags behind when the cost for a barrel of oil drops. For now, locals are paying more, but they may see a drop at local stations in the near future. Compared to the national average, Manchester and Lakehurst residents still fare better, as nationally a gallon of regular costs $3.98, according to AAA. The state average is $3.89 for a gallon of regular. Don’t get saddled paying more than you need to, however. Check the Manchester Patch …

Gas Price Roundup: No Relief In Sight

Gas prices up again; average price up 45 cents per gallon from beginning of April

Gas prices around Manchester have surged to an average of $3.81 for a gallon of regular, a 14-cent increase over what locals were paying last Friday.  Prices have continued an upward trend the entire month, as the average local cost at the start of April was $3.36 a gallon, meaning Manchester and Lakehurst residents are now paying on average 45 cents more per gallon that they did at the start of the month. In spite of the rise in gas prices, local stations are not seeing an increase to their bottom line, said Rick Reineke, owner of Circle Gas on the Route 37-70 circle in Lakehurst. “We’re making less money, things are costing us more, and our profit margins are smaller,” he said. Reineke said he "[hasn't] got a clue" about how high prices …

Gas Price Roundup: Pumps Not Kind This Good Friday

Gas prices continue to rise

Locals won’t find any good news at area gas stations on this Good Friday. Continuing a trend seen each week since Manchester Patch began reporting local gas prices last month, the average price for a gallon of gas has once again increased. Now, locals are paying an average of 9 cents more per gallon compared to last week. The six Manchester and Lakehurst gas stations surveyed are charging an average of $3.67 for a gallon regular. Whiting stations Wawa and Jersey Gas have the best price on gas locally, coming in at $3.62 per gallon of regular. The Manchester area still continues to fare slightly better than most of New Jersey and the rest of the nation. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular on Friday morning was $3.74…

Speculation, Not Demand, Fueling Gas Prices, Expert Says

Oil industry analyst says Wall Street speculation a main reason for high pump prices

The price of a gallon of gasoline has been on a steady rise since October and one of the chief reasons that drivers are being squeezed is not increased demand, but increased profit, one expert said Monday. Wall Street speculation is among the leading reasons that gas prices have been on a steady increase for the last six months, said Ben Brockwell, an oil industry analyst with the Oil Price Information Service – an oil industry news service based on Route 138. “This is not a demand-driven rally (of increased prices),’’ said Brockwell, the oil news service' director of  pricing. “There’s a lot of Wall Street money intrigued by oil as an investment vehicle to make a profit.’’ Nationally, the average price for a gallon of regular gas is $3.83…
