Scammer claims computers were damaged in the storm and requests personal information
Seniors should be aware of scammers using Hurricane Sandy as a means to solicit Social Security and other personal information, Ocean County officials warned Friday. A county woman recently reported that she received a call from an individual claiming to be from the Social Security administration. If she did not give up her husband's Social Security number, the caller claimed his benefits would stop, said Freeholder Joseph Vicari, who serves as chairman of Senior Services. "The ploy used was that Social Security administration computers were damaged in the hurricane," Vicari said. "This is not true." Social Security and Medicare will not call beneficiaries at home to ask for personal information or try to sell any products, Vicari said. "…

John Bartlett to serve as deputy director in 2012, Vicari sworn into 11th term on board
Ocean County freeholders pledged Wednesday to continue to deliver the most services at the lowest cost to residents while selecting new leadership for 2012. Gerry P. Little was unanimously selected to serve as freeholder director, and John C. Bartlett was named deputy director at the board's annual reorganization meeting, held in the county Administration Building. Longtime Freeholder Joseph Vicari, who served as director in 2011, moved down the dais after being sworn in to his 11th term on the board. Little and Bartlett praised Vicari's leadership in front of a standing-room-only crowd filled with municipal and county officials as well as Congressmen Christopher Smith and Jon Runyan. Vicari still angry of JCP&L's response to Hurricane Irene
Republicans and Democrats disagree on whether Ocean County would be better served by its utility companies if someone who lives in the county was appointed to the state Board of Public Utilities. “There’s no point to doing this. It’s political,’’ said Democrat Michele Rosen, who is running for a seat on the freeholder board. The Republicans who are freeholders voted unanimously, again, to ask the governor to name a county resident to the board that regulates utilities. Similar resolutions passed over the last eight years have produced no results.
