Hello Lakehurst, Well summer is over and so is the Lakehurst Farmer’s Market. I can’t believe 11 weeks came and went so quick. I am very proud to be part of The Lakehurst Revitalization Association. This group organized and ran the Farmer’s Market. I am truly going to miss our Sunday morning set ups with a cup of Lucky 7 coffee and breakfast sandwiches. There are a couple of groups I would like to acknowledge and thank for their help in ensuring the inaugural season was a success. The Lakehurst Revitalization Association for, well doing it all! All of the farmers and vendors, DJ Brian Dugan for some great music, the Lakehurst Fire Department, the Lakehurst First Aid, the Lakehurst Police Department and the Girl Scouts for helping out each …

Nationwide event was held locally at the borough's baseball field on Tuesday night
Locals had a chance to get to know law enforcement and emergency responders Tuesday at National Night Out in Lakehurst. Borough police, fire and first aid members, Navy Lakehurst personnel and New Jersey State Troopers were among those participating in the 29th annual gathering. Officials expected 1,000 to 1,500 locals to visit the free event at the Lakehurst baseball field at the corner of Chestnut and Myrtle streets. Borough police Patrolmen Ian James and Matthew Kline have organized the borough's celebration for the past few years. Residents were encouraged to sign up for positions on the borough's first aid squad, fire department and revitalization committee. Amusements for children were on-hand, prizes were raffled and free food …

Hello Lakehurst, It has been a while since I have written a column. However, if I don’t have anything to say, you won’t see one. I’m not that vain that I need to see my ugly mug in the paper every week. It just reminds me how old I’m getting. By now almost everyone knows about or has been to the Lakehurst Farmer’s Market, held Sundays from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Lake Horicon. The Farmer's Market not only has great fresh produce, baked goods, honey and gourmet Italian foods. It also provides a friendly neighborhood atmosphere. The Farmer’s Market is the kind of positive things that can happen when the residents get involved with their governing body. I know I can’t come out and take each one of you by the hand and bring you to my …

Hello Lakehurst, I would like to congratulate all 8th grade, high school and college graduates! Good job to all. For the 8th grade graduates, you will be starting your final leg of education unless you plan on going to college. For the high school grads, you will either be starting your higher education or entering the work force. For our college grads, it’s time to get a job and start paying off all those loans. You should all be proud of yourselves. Growing up in a small town like Lakehurst instilled a certain type of pride in you. Take that pride and use it in your coming years. Never forget where you came from, remember heads high and look them in the eyes. School is out folks, so PLEASE be aware of your surroundings. Children will be …

Hello Lakehurst, There are a number of things I would like to tell you about. The first being the unfortunate increase in our taxes. Our taxes will be going up 3.14 cents per $100. Like I said before, the one thing we need to remember is Lakehurst is a full service town. That is something you don’t see much of anymore. The Annual Bicycle Rodeo will be held on Saturday, June 2, with a rain date of June 9 from 12 to 4:00 p.m. at Lake Horicon. This event is hosted each year by the Lakehurst Police Department along with the Lakehurst Municipal Alliance. This event is open to all children from pre-K to 8th grade. All participants must wear a helmet. On June 14, the Lakehurst Fire Department will host a circus at Fuccile Park (baseball field …

Note: Lakehurst Mayor Harry Robbins and Councilmember Gary Lowe invite all residents to an informal open forum beginning at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, at Lake Horicon. Hello Lakehurst, I have received some safety concerns about Manapaqua Avenue and Chestnut Street. The Council and I take the safety of our residents very seriously. Manapaqua and Chestnut are county roads. With that being said, I sent a letter out to Freeholder John P. Kelly who is in charge of the Ocean County Engineer Department. On April 24, I received a call from a representative of the Engineering Department. They will come out to do an evaluation of the roads. The Borough will do everything in its power to fix these concerns. However, it is turning into a mud throwing …

Mayor Harry Robbins has made requests in writing to Freeholders
After numerous complaints over the safety of a heavily-traveled county road in Lakehurst, the borough's mayor has asked for help. Residents have often complained that the 35 mph speed limit along Manapaqua Avenue — a main thoroughfare frequently used by residents and churchgoers traveling on the north side of the borough — is too high and often ignored by motorists. Mayor Harry Robbins said at a borough council meeting last week that he has written to Ocean County Freeholder John P. Kelly, Law and Public Safety chairman, asking for help. "Jack, this stretch of road is heavy populated with small children and a lot of curb side side parking. This is also a walking route for school," Robbins writes. "And if that's not bad enough, this road …

Hello Lakehurst, Budget meetings are well under way.The Finance Committee and I, along with the Borough’s CFO, have met. The next meeting will be with the Finance Committee, the Resident Advisory Committee and the CFO. We are hoping to introduce the Budget at the Council meeting on April 19. Even with the loss of the Administrator and Code Enforcer, I’m afraid it looks like we are facing an increase. One thing we all need to remember is that Lakehurst is a full service town. For instance, If we were to cut garbage pickup, well that will cost us the Residents at least $400 a year out of pocket for private pickup. I will keep you informed as I know more. On April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Lakehurst Police Department will be …

Hello Lakehurst, It has been brought to my attention that there are some handymen and women that live in town who like to bring their work home with them. Week after week we see a load of construction debris in front of the same homes. Although the borough is a full service town that will pick up almost anything at the curb, it does have to come from a resident in town. This illegal dumping costs the town money, which in return costs you the tax payer. This has to stop! We will be watching these homes. And action will be taken. On March 12, with the help of Councilman Steven Oglesby, I held the first Business/Mayor meeting. I would like to thank those who took the time out of their busy day to attend. Heather and Danny from Cooper's …

Hello Lakehurst, I hope this column finds everyone healthy. This leads me into one of my topics of my column. In January, I had the privilege to swear in the officers of the Lakehurst Volunteer First Aid Squad. Even though they are a small group, they do a big service for the residents of Lakehurst. This outstanding group of people will always be there for you. I know this has happened to some of you already. Imagine it is the middle of the night and all of a sudden you or a loved one becomes ill, maybe chest pains or something causes an allergic reaction. You call 911 and the police and an ambulance arrive. They take you to the hospital, thank goodness everything turned out OK. Then you get the ambulance bill which can be in the hundreds…
