Telethon kicked off fundraising event Thursday afternoon
Over $23,000 in Hurricane Sandy relief funds has been raised through a Leisure Village West telethon held Thursday and organizers on Friday continue to welcome donations. The live broadcast was available to those living in the retirement community on station KLVW Thursday. Residents were invited to Willow Hall to watch the event live and partake in refreshments. Manchester Mayor Michael Fressola and other township administrators attended the benefit which featured live musical acts and was produced by village trustees Ryan and Sandra Kaufman, said Councilman-elect Charles Frattini. Live broadcast runs from 4 to 7 p.m. on neighborhood television station
Leisure Village West will host a Thursday afternoon Hurricane Sandy fundraiser on its neighborhood television station. The live broadcast will be available to those living in the community on station KLVW from 4 to 7 p.m. Residents are invited to Willow Hall to watch the event live and partake in refreshments. "While most of us were terribly inconvenienced, so many lost their homes, their belongings and everything they owned," reads a flyer for the event. "Many have donated items of immediate importance such as clothes, blankets and food already. We choose to raise money to help them get back on the road to recovery." Charges were issued to 17-year-old male on Sunday
A 17-year-old faces multiple charges after police allege he entered an adjoining home in a senior community through the attached attic and stole jewelry. Police were called to a Chesterfield Court home in Leisure Village West on Sunday, Sept. 23, when a resident said that jewelry was missing from her home, Manchester Police Department Capt. Lisa Parker said in a statement. "During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the point of entry was a hole that had been made in the firewall in the attic between the victim's residence and the attached neighbor's attic," Parker said. Leisure Village West Genealogy Society presented honors at board of education meeting
Members of the Leisure Village West Genealogy Club presented three Manchester students with top honors for the essays they crafted exploring their family histories. Open to all district sixth graders the contest is held each October, which is National History Month, said Supervisor of Instruction Barbara Smith during a presentation at the February regular meeting. "The most significant personal aspect of history is one's personal history or one's family as expressed by traditions, which is a very age appropriate way of exploring that in the sixth grade," Smith said.
