Police and paramedics responded to the Route 70 restaurant Monday afternoon
Police responded to the Manchester Applebee's parking lot Monday afternoon after a driver appeared to suffer a medical episode and struck another car. Alvina M. Bigos, 79, was traveling through the lot of the Route 70 restaurant at about 12:30 p.m. in a 2012 Toyota Yaris when she "may have had a medical condition" which caused her to impact a 2010 Hyundai belonging to a township resident, said Manchester police Capt. Lisa Parker. "The impact was at slow speed and with little visible damage," Parker said. Bigos was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for medical attention. Family, friends attend welcome home open house
When William Matthaey was a freshman at Manchester Township High School, he told his parents he wanted to go into the military. Sunday, he was back in Manchester greeting family and friends after serving his first tour of duty in Afghanistan. U.S. Army Pfc. Matthaey, a 2010 MTHS graduate, is a parachute rigger who was stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan for seven months before returning to the states in February. He came home for the first time since then on March 16. "The job I did helped everyone else trying to defend the U.S.," said the 20-year-old at his welcome home celebration at the Manchester Applebee's. Fundraiser set for Saturday, Feb. 25 at Manchester Applebee's
Residents are being asked to rally this Saturday for a Hawk who is battling cancer. A flapjack fundraiser for Trevor Martin, a sophomore at Manchester Township High School who was diagnosed two weeks ago with acute myelogenous leukemia, will be held Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Manchester Applebee's from 8 to 10 a.m. A Hawks basketball player who wears number 32, Martin is receiving chemotherapy treatment for the cancer — which affects blood and bone marrow — at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, said English teacher Jill Ocone. For $10, a breakfast of pancakes, sausage, scrambled eggs and beverage will be provided. Dining to Donate fundraiser for the class of 2014 is Thursday
If your lunch or dinner plans for Thursday include dining out, a meal at the local Applebee's will benefit high school students. Those who print this flyer and present it to their server at the Applebee's in Manchester Plaza will have 10 percent of their bill donated to Manchester Township High School's class of 2014. Other local organizations have used the donation program in the past, including Kevin's Kids, which held a fundraiser at the restaurant last November.
