Manchester Little League is a part of District 18 which includes the Little Leagues of Barnegat, Beachwood, Berkeley, Stafford, Brick, Jackson, Holbrook, Lakewood and both Toms River leagues. At the end of June every year, Little League District All-Star teams all over the country, including Manchester, commence their quest to reach the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa. A Look Ahead

'Bat for Matt' Fundraiser Tournament This Saturday

Tournament will benefit 15-year-old township teen

A one pitch softball tournament sponsored by the Manchester Little League and Manchester PBA 246 aims to benefit a 15-year-old battling a debilitating disease.  The all-day "Bat for Matt" event to benefit high school sophomore Matt Michalski kicks off at the township's Little League complex on Route 571 at 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, and is being billed as a "day of laughs, fun and competition." Michalski is battling Dysautonomia, a malfunction of his autonomic nervous system that includes symptoms similar to organ failure. According to WOBM, Michalski "can’t do any of the things that a teenager would like, including going to school, riding a bike, playing baseball or walking around with his friends." The entry fee for teams is $200, and …

Lawsuit an 'Eye-Opening Experience' for Little League Player's Family

Manchester boy being sued for errant warm-up throw that struck a spectator two years ago

The public support that a Manchester family has received for being sued after an errant Little League warm-up throw injured a spectator has been "a real eye-opening experience," said Bob Miglaccio, father to 13-year-old catcher Matthew. "A lot of the things I read choked me up," Bob Migliaccio said. Since the incident, the Migliaccio family has received emails and phone calls from around the world.  "They're just calling to say, 'we're behind you, we support you.' The outpouring from people is overwhelming," Bob Migliaccio said, adding that he has been contacted by citizens as far away as Germany and England.  Matthew Migliaccio was 11 when his practice throw left the Manchester Little League field where he was warming up and struck …

Little League Pitch Suit Spurs Legislators to Consider Extending Spectator Liability

10th District drafting legislation after 11-year-old boy's practice pitch struck a spectator at Little League field

Planned legislation — spurred by the story of a Manchester Little League player being sued for $500,000 after his errant pitch struck a Whiting woman — could mean spectators will watch at their own risk during nonprofit youth sporting events.  Representatives from New Jersey's 10th Legislative District, which includes Manchester and Lakehurst, are planning to introduce legislation that would expand the assumption of spectator risk at professional events outlined in a 2006 state law to nonprofit youth sport events. The law states that in most instances, a spectator is responsible for his or her safety at the venue from things like, for example, a ball hit into the stands. "You're sitting in your seat and get hit by a ball. There's an …

POLL: Should Boy Be Responsible for Errant Little League Throw That Struck Spectator?

A Manchester boy has been sued over a pitch that struck a Whiting woman in 2010

A Manchester boy is being sued for $500,000 for an errant pitch that struck a spectator in the face two years ago at the township's Little League field, according to his father and media reports.  Matthew Migliaccio was 11 when a practice pitch he threw left the field and struck a Whiting woman in the face. His father, Bob Migliaccio, told Patch in an email that the league originally told the family that "he had nothing legally to worry about." That is not the case any longer, he alleges. "Little League at every level will not help in his defense," he writes. "The policy of Little League is not to cover spectators under its insurance plan, so we are on our own." A lawyer for the Migliaccios told the Associated Press that the lawsuit, which…

You know, if this waste of a human being wants to sue a little boy for not throwing as accurately as a MLB pitcher and wants damages for "pain and suffering" I think that memebers of the community where she lives should teach her and her husband what "pain and suffering" really means.   more ›
