Manchester Praises Organization That Brings Hope, Healing to Sandy Victims

New Jersey Hope and Healing reaching out to Ocean County victims.

It's the door-to-door interaction with Ocean County residents - and the ability to help those in need - that keeps Susan Palmer coming back. As one of more than 600 people who serve as crisis counselors for New Jersey Hope and Healing, a joint effort of the state Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Mental Health Association of New Jersey, Palmer said she has been able to interact with dozens of people throughout Ocean County - from Holgate to Seaside - after Sandy. At last night's Manchester Council meeting, Brendan Weiner praised the work the organization does. The Township Council said farewell to two councilmen at their regular meeting last night, and reappointed the township's chief financial officer to the post. Mayor Michael Freesola honored Frederick Trutkoff and Warren Reiter with a proclamation honoring their service, and the council awarded both men a clock for their dedication. Trutkoff, a member since 2004, and Reiter, a member since 2008 opted, not to seek reelection this year, citing a desire to spend more time with their families.  Council President Craig Wallis called his fellow council members "honest, hardworking, and dedicated," adding, "their dedication to the residents of this town is unquestionable. UPDATE: Manchester Crash Victim Identified

David Vignevic, 34, succumbed to injuries after crashing into utility pole and overturning vehicle

UPDATE, 12:30 p.m. Sunday: The motorist who died at the scene of a one-car crash Saturday in Manchester has been identified by Capt. Lisa Parker as David Vignevic, 34, of Suburban Drive in Toms River.   An unidentified motorist died this morning after crashing into a utility pole.  Manchester police Capt. Lisa Parker said the motorist, who has not been identified pending the notification of next of kin, was driving a blue 2004 Honda Accord west on Route 571 at 4:24 a.m. when he left the road and hit a utility pole. The Accord overturned, Parker said, before hitting a tree near Quarry Road. The motorist was wearing a seat-belt and was traveling alone, Parker said.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
