Auxiliary Police Info Session Set for Wednesday

Manchester last welcomed auxiliary officers to the department in May

An information session for residents interested in joining the volunteer arm of the Manchester Police Department is set for Wednesday evening. The Manchester Auxiliary Police Unit, a volunteer unit made up of township residents, assists officers from the police department with special events such as parades, festivals and community patrols, said Lt. Vincent Manco. The auxiliary may also be activated when emergency conditions arise in Manchester, such as during severe weather. "While some of us join as a stepping stone to a career in law enforcement, others join simply to serve their community," Manco said in a statement. Manchester's Auxiliary Police Officers Graduate

Ceremony was held Wednesday at the township's civic center

A new class of Manchester's volunteer police force is ready to take to the streets. Graduates of the township's Police Auxiliary received their badges and high praise from Manchester police Wednesday after concluding their 60 hours of training — 24 hours more than is required by the state.  Sgt. James Komsa said that the training, which began in February and ended last week, was "very involved." Candidates met every Wednesday for 4 to 5 hours, sometimes staying until midnight to complete class.  The graduates did a "phenomenal" job, Komsa said. Final class scores ranged from 90.3 to 98.3.  "I couldn't ask for anything better. My standards are very high," the sergeant said.  The auxiliary program had been in disrepair when he took over as …

Maybe $$$ are involved. Did you ever consider that aspect? How much does a Class II Special Officer get paid in comparison to a volunteer. Will the taxpayers of Manchester pay the difference in additional taxes? Calling the volunteers 'Glorified Police Explorers' seems unfair to me. I don't believe you thought this through before posting your comments.   more ›

Manchester Police Auxiliary Program to Hold New Member Info Session

Information session set for Nov. 16 in the township's municipal complex

The volunteer arm of Manchester's police department is asking residents interesting in donating their time to attend an information session next month.  The Manchester Auxiliary Police, a volunteer unit made up of township residents, assists officers from the police department with special events such as parades, festivals and community patrols, said Capt. Lisa Parker. The auxiliary may also be activated when emergency conditions arise in Manchester, such as during severe weather.
