Graduated from Toms River North
The Manchester Township Police Department got its newest member on Monday when Mayor Michael Fressola swore in Patrick Mabie. After graduating from Toms River North High School in 2004 Mabie graduated from Ocean County College in 2012 and will now head off to the Ocean County Police Academy in Lakewood this week. Serving his community is nothing new for Mabie having served on the Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Department and the Pleasant Plains Volunteer First Aid Squad. He has also worked for Quality Medical Transport and as an EMT with the Toms River Office of Emergency services. The Manchester police department has met accreditation standards, according to township officials. Inspectors visited Manchester last October to check that the department is in compliance with the 41 policies and 112 standards required for state accreditation, and the official accreditation word was given earlier this month, according to Chief of Police Brian Klimakowski, who spoke with Patch at the regular Council meeting held last night. By meeting the standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Klimakowski has said that insurance premiums will be reduced and the department's professionalism will be enhanced. Manchester police reported two drug possession charges on their most recent arrest blotter, released by Capt. Lisa Parker. The first was reported on Wednesday, Jan. 30, when Manchester resident Michael S. Hinds, 20, was charged with the offense at Pine Acres Manor by Patrolman Joseph Reilly. The second came one day later, when 25-year-old Joshua W. Hogan of Chesterfield was charged along Route 530 in Whiting by Patrolman Anthony Iliadis, according to Parker. Both men were released by police on summonses, Parker said. Changes to rank necessary as Investigative Bureau sergeant retires at year's end
Manchester police have promoted an 11-year veteran of its force to the rank of sergeant as the department reorganizes in anticipation of a retirement in its Investigative Bureau. Richard Mazza, who has served as a patrolman and detective, was promoted to sergeant at a Tuesday ceremony at Manchester's Municipal Complex, said Capt. Lisa Parker in a statement. "During Sgt. Mazza’s tenure with the Police Division, he received a total of 14 awards to include the Chief’s Award and the Exceptional Duty Award," Parker said. "In addition to receiving multiple awards, Sgt. Department has decided to use Dodge Chargers on its fleet
Manchester's Township Council last week approved the purchase of four new police cars as the department continues to cycle vehicles in its fleet. The 2012 Dodge Chargers requested by police will replace three aging and one damaged Ford Crown Victorias used by the Manchester Police Department which are no longer in production. The cost for the vehicles, which will be bought through the Cranford Police Cooperative Purchasing System, will not exceed $99,836, according to the purchase authorization resolution approved Tuesday evening. Of the four cars, three will replace vehicles that have met or will soon reach their 100,000 mile usefulness limit. Marianne Borthwick will leave the position after 10 years of service
Manchester's Municipal Alliance, an anti-drug coalition made up of local government, police and school officials, will need a new coordinator after Marianne Borthwick leaves the post she has held for the past 10 years. "She's played a key role and has been an outstanding proponent of the kids," said Chief of Police Brian Klimakowski, who is spearheading the search for a replacement. Borthwick will leave the position effective Dec. 31. The chief will accept letters of interest and resumes through email until Friday, Nov. 30. Klimakowski said that he is hoping to find a replacement from the community who will bring the same "drive and continue to make the program a success." Incident in Jackson landed Manchester woman in jail with $50,000 bond
A Manchester woman faces multiple charges including child endangerment after an alleged drunken assault and hit and run incident in Jackson Monday evening. During a dispute on Cassville Road, Michele Duffy, 34, of Manchester, allegedly intentionally drove a 2002 Mazda into the man holding the couple's six-year-old daughter, Jackson police said. Duffy allegedly ran the man over and struck another individual who came to help before she put the child in the car and left the scene, police said. Manchester police later located the Mazda at the township's Quick Chek on Route 571 and Duffy was taken into custody. Manchester last welcomed auxiliary officers to the department in May
An information session for residents interested in joining the volunteer arm of the Manchester Police Department is set for Wednesday evening. The Manchester Auxiliary Police Unit, a volunteer unit made up of township residents, assists officers from the police department with special events such as parades, festivals and community patrols, said Lt. Vincent Manco. The auxiliary may also be activated when emergency conditions arise in Manchester, such as during severe weather. Law enforcement activity reported by Manchester officers last week
Two driving while intoxicated charges were among the offenses reported by Manchester police officers last week, according to a log of police activity released by Capt. Lisa Parker. The first of those charges came on Tuesday, Oct. 16, when Steven R. Chambers, 31, of Manchester was stopped by police on Route 70 near Route 571. Chambers was charged with DWI by Patrolman Joseph Hankins and released on a summons, Parker said. Days later, Bayville resident Jacquelyn A. Elmore, 29, was charged with DWI after coming to a stop on Leawood Avenue in Toms River.
