NJSIAA Moves Dates for State Wrestling Tournaments

Lady Gaga concert forces moves for individual and team tournaments

A move by the NJSIAA to add a week to the dual meet season in wrestling – pushing back both the 2013 state team and individual tournaments  – has Toms River Regional School District officials looking at the calendar and trying to see if it can continue to host some of those state events. Since 2004, the Toms River district has hosted the state team group championships and the Region VI event at Pine Belt Arena. The dates are usually booked well in advance, with the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association setting the following year’s tournament schedule even as the current tournament is finishing. TR South's Theobold, Clagon Reach Wrestling Finals

Corrigan wrestling for fifth place

Ken Theobold paced on the mat, watching his teammate, BJ Clagon, finishing off his victory in the semifinals of the NJSIAA Individual Wrestling Championships. The two are friends and wrestling room partners, but in the state tournament in Atlantic City this weekend, they were semifinalists with very different roles. Clagon, a state finalist at the 2011 championships, came into the tournament as a favorite to win the title at 138 pounds. Theobold, on the other hand, was the decided underdog in his semifinal at 145. He was wrestling the top seed in the bracket, T.J. Miller of Camden Catholic, who won a title last year and had just one loss all year -- none within New Jersey. None of that mattered to Theobold, who went out and pulled off one …

TR South Wrestlers, Brick Memorial's Ghione, Lacey's Knapp Reach Semifinals

NJSIAA championships continuing in Atlantic City

Toms River South's BJ Clagon, Kevin Corrigan and Ken Theobold all advanced to the semifinals of the NJSIAA Individual Wrestling Championships on Saturday morning, putting the trio one step closer to state titles. Also advancing to the semifinals were sophomore Joe Ghione of Brick Memorial and senior Lex Knapp of Lacey. Corrigan, a junior, improved to 39-0 when he earned a 3-1 decision over Marc Mastropietro of Hasbrouck Heights in the 113-pound weight class. He will face DePaul Catholic freshman David McFadden (36-2) in the semifinals later today. Clagon (39-0), a junior who's considered by most the favorite in the 138-pound class, scored an 18-6 major decision over Jorge Lopez of Delbarton and faces John Boyle, a senior from Rutherford …

TR South Trio Advances to NJSIAA Wrestling Quarterfinals

Brick Memorial duo, Central's Ramos, Lacey's Knapp also advance

Toms River South's BJ Clagon, Kevin Corrigan and Ken Theobold continue their quest for state championships, when the trio advanced to the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA Individual Wrestling Championships at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. Clagon, the favorite at 138 pounds, pinned Chuckie Slater of Ramsey in 2:34 to advance.
