Police said 11 p.m. Monday incident kills pedestrian, a 56 year-old Toms River man
A 56-year-old resident of Dover Woods died after he was struck by a pick-up while walking in front of the Ramada Inn on Route 9 at 11 p.m. Monday, police said. Edward Braden IV died not far from his home at Dover Woods, 1001 Route 70 in Toms River on the border with Lakewood. Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said Braden was struck by a southbound 2006 Ford pick-up truck, driven by Michael Fennessey, 64, of Brick. Toms River Police EMS transported Braden to Kimball Medical Center were he was pronounced, said the police chief. Mastronardy said whether Braden was walking north or southbound on Route 9 or was crossing is still under investigation. Fennessey was driving southbound, he said. Traffic detoured between Route 70 and North Maple in Toms River
Route 9 closed around 11 p.m. after a pedestrian was struck by a pick-up truck near the Ramada Inn in Toms River, police said. Traffic is being detoured from Route 70 to North Maple Avenue as emergency responders address serious injuries of the pedestrian, who Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said was walking near the Ramada when he was hit by a southbound truck. The names of the driver and pedestrian were not released and the extent of injuries were not known as of 11:30 p.m. "The pedestrian was, by all indications, struck while in the roadway," Mastronardy said. Traffic detoured as police conduct an investigation
Update 11 a.m. Friday: Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy reported this morning that the pedestrian who was killed is Elaine Macmillan, 38, of St. Croix Street Holiday City of Berkeley. Update 11 p.m. Thursday: In the sixth fatal accident this year and the third in October, a female crossing Route 37 near Walmart was struck by a westbound vehicle shortly after 9:15 p.m., police said. Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy said the 38 year-old Holiday City at Berkeley resident was attempting to cross Route 37 just east of Walmart, when she was struck by a 2012 Nissan driving westbound.
