Belmar Is The Jersey Shore's Favorite 'Staycation' Spot, Poll Says

Island Beach State Park and Jenkinson's finished second and third, respectively

A late, improbable rally put Belmar beaches at the top of this week's Readers' Choice poll for favorite Jersey Shore "staycation" spots, with 113 votes. Belmar is known for it's wide, long boardwalk, and its attraction to college-age adults who enjoy the beach and the local night-life. Island Beach State Park, the only natural beach on the Jersey Shore other than Sandy Hook, led for much of the week but finished second with 82 votes. Jenkinson's Boardwalk, which includes an aquarium, rides, food and other seaside pleasures in Point Pleasant Beach, finished third with 77. Thank you for voting in this week's poll. Applebee's Readers' Choice for Best Family-Friendly Restaurant

Manchester eatery captures nearly half the votes in weekly poll

Readers overwhelmingly chose Applebee's in Manchester as the most family-friendly restaurant in the area. Out of 43 votes, 20, or 46 percent, chose the Route 70 restaurant. Twenty percent chose McDonald's in Lakehurst while Three B's in Lakehurst came in third with 16 percent of the vote. The votes are in and Donovan's has been selected as the readers' choice spot to celebrate St. Patrick's Day this year.  Donovan's was in a neck-and-neck race with the Lakehurst Volunteer Fire Department's annual dinner. I'm with JerseyShore - other than the water park, Pine Lake is pretty much useless. Goose droppings and a lake in which the Toxic Avenger wouldn't swim - no thanks. Sometimes we'll take a drive over the bridge and hit some of the small playgrounds right on the bay. But Manchester doesn't offer much in the way of fun parks for kids.   more ›

Favorites: Rocco G's Voted Best Italian Food in Manchester

Luigi's Pizza in Lakehurst takes second place in reader poll

With so many great Italian restaurants in Manchester and Lakehurst, picking the best is no easy task.  In our week-long Patch poll, Rocco G's Italian Kitchen in Manchester came out on top with 39 percent of the vote. Luigi's Pizza in Lakehurst took the second spot with 22 percent of votes, followed by Lakehurst's La Gondola with 18 percent. Congrats! Luigi's receives a special mention for having the most outspoken loyal patrons, many of whom left complimentary remarks about the Lakehurst dining staple in the comments section.
