Ocean County prosecutor told High School North students he will not allow drugs in schools
On his 60th day in office as Ocean County's prosecutor, Joseph Coronato made a pledge to high school students: if they're involved with drugs, he will find out. "I'm telling you up front, I'm coming," he told Toms River High School North students during an assembly at in the school's auditorium Wednesday. Since he took office, each day someone has died in Ocean County from a drug overdose, Coronato said. Of those, 60 percent are between the ages of 20 and 24. To stop the problem, the prosecutor said that he will take action in Ocean County schools so teenagers don't get involved with drugs in the first place. Bail set at $300,000 for 31-year-old Barnegat woman.
A 31-year-old Barnegat woman - who is a teacher in the Toms River Regional school system - has been charged with criminal sexual contact against a student, according to a press release. Ocean County Prosecutor Marlene Lynch Ford said in the press release that Erin T. Haskell, who teaches at Intermediate South in Beachwood, has been charged with having an inappropriate relationship with one of her students, a minor. Due to the student's age, the Prosecutor's Office did not disclose any other information about the student. Haskell has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and exhibiting obscene material to a minor. Manasquan sets meet record in 200 freestyle relay
The Toms River North girls swim team refused to let injuries keep it from its goals. With two key swimmers battling injuries and coach Heather Barbalindo forced to make last-minute decisions on who would swim, the Mariners earned second place at the Shore Conference Girls Swimming Championships on Sunday at the Ocean County YMCA in Toms River. Red Bank Catholic won its seventh straight team title with 393 points and broke one of the meet's oldest records in the 400-meter freestyle relay, erasing a mark set by Rumson-Fair Haven that had been set in 1990. The war on drugs is wasting a lot of money and doesn't address the problem of young teenagers in school with recreational usage. We need someone to step up to the plate and tackle the situation on the High School level and someone just did. Thank You Mr. Coronato.   more ›
