Oceanfront homeowners between Manasquan and Barnegat inlets are being urged to sign easements necessary for a beach renourishment project to get off the ground by May 1, officials said Thursday. U.S. Rep Jon Runyan (R-3) wrote to the mayors of a number of northern Ocean County municipalities this week urging them to secure all necessary easements for the massive dune and beach project by May 1, the date the Army Corps of Engineers must submit a work plan to Congress. The project's design – which would include the construction of approximately 25-foot high dunes, 75 foot wide berms and 175 acres of dune grass in the project area – was completed in 2007, but has languished after some oceanfront homeowners refused to sign easements that would…

Local and state officials hold public workshop to discuss how to replace nuclear power plant, which will close in 2019
A new facility to replace Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station upon its closure would adequately make up for lost taxes and power generation but fall far short of providing the jobs currently offered at the nuclear power plant. The challenge of providing opportunities for the 700-plus Oyster Creek workforce as well as the process to reach a consensus on what type of plant should replace Oyster Creek was discussed by local and state officials Wednesday night, as Congressman Jon Runyan (R-3) held a public information session at Lacey Middle School. "To get this right we're going to need everyone's help in this process," said Runyan at a meeting in which officials from Lacey, Barnegat, Waretown and several state departments and boards …

U.S. Rep. says students' work in the sciences is important in guiding environmental policy
U.S. Rep. Jon Runyan made a visit to the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences Thursday, allowing students to put their skills and accomplishments on display, and offering local conservation nonprofits that work closely with the county-run school some face time with the congressman. It was Runyan’s first visit to the Manahawkin science- and math-oriented high school, which is part of the Ocean County Vocational Technical School District and gives more than 200 bright students the chance to take college-level science courses, conduct field research and run an endangered species conservation program while getting their high school degrees. After a trio of seniors guided Runyan through classrooms and labs filled with tanks …

The congressman presented $500 to the American Red Cross
While U.S. Rep. Jon Runyan (R-NJ) visited Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst last week to donate money for humanitary aid, his visit to the combined installation also served as an opportunity to address jobs and pay parity. Runyan presented a check for $500 to the American Red Cross on behalf of the American Society of Military Comptrollers during a luncheon at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst on May 20. Following his remarks during the presentation, Runyan went on to praise the group's work. “The American Red Cross does a lot of great things” the congressman said. “Not only humanitarian aid, but also the things they do for our soldiers to make sure that they’re connected with their loved ones when they need them.” During his speech at the …
