Veterans Promised Assistance Finding Aid After Service

Symposium presents overview of services, problems

  Veterans returning from combat face a variety of challenges when they leave the military, from health issues to finding a job. Every veteran should know there are services available to help them and a variety of benefits they are entitled to receive, veterans services personnel and local officials told a group of 100 veterans at the Lacey Elks Lodge on Saturday afternoon. “We are making sure that our veterans are greeted with care and concern when they return from duty,” Ocean County Freeholder Gerry P. Little said. Veterans Benefits Information Session Set For March 31

Jobs, education, claims to be discussed in Lacey

The Lacey Township Veterans Commission is hosting its first symposium to help veterans understand the benefits they are entitled to and how to access them. The event will be held 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at the Lacey Elks Lodge. One of the organizers, Bernie Snyder, a commission member for 30 years and a Vietnam veteran, said they're bringing in speakers who help solve veterans' problems. "A lot of veterans are coming in asking direction, how to get benefits," said Snyder. "They get out and don't know what they're entitled to." Ocean County Veterans Service Bureau Director John Dorrity, whom Snyder calls the "guru" of veterans service officers in the state, will provide an overview of the services and programs available in the county…
