I've lived in Barnegat more than 13 years, longer than some, not as long as others.  I'm married and have two children in the Barnegat school district, so I freely admit my bias in favor of adequate funding for public schools.  Hey, I spent many years paying school taxes when I didn't have kids, so why shouldn't I get back something for them?  And to those seniors who vote against school budgets, don't forget that parents like myself were paying school taxes while you're children were growing up, so what's fair is fair.

As a young adult I spent 7 years in college and graduate school studying history, political science and economics.  I put all that education to good use in the real estate business during which time I picked up a masters degree in business administration.  Now I'm semi-retired pursuing other interests, which includes blogging on Patch about various political and economic topics, in particular as they relate to local concerns and issues.

As to my political orientation, I can describe it best from when I was in high school.  During my political science class the teacher gave us a "political attitude" test so that he could arrange our seats based on political philosophy from right to left.  I scored so far to the left he put me out in the hallway.  I recall he said at the time I made George McGovern seem like George Wallace.  That being said I'm sure there will be other bloggers on Patch, especially here in Barnegat and Ocean County, who will discuss the issues from a more moderate-to-conservative perspective.  Besides, when it comes to township and county administration, I think most of us put ideology aside and focus on competence and honesty instead, a rare characteristic among local political leaders.
