ReplyDoes anyone understand what Jean is saying? The majority of the contributors have asked for beach restoration and not mentioned the loss of beach "view". With repect to the comment of condos being a "source of wealth", I think that Jean has other social issues to deal with.
If you want to take a long term view of the costs associated with beach restoration I am sure you will see that the entire island has received the benefits of beach restoration. -

ReplyJeff,
I agree with you completely, don't forget that for last few years the City has front end loaders taking sand at the waters edge to restore the dunes. Great temporary measure but the operation reminds me of and old episode of I Love Lucy and the cake factory. -

ReplyFrank,
I agree with you, I have noticed that the most outspoken contributors have a generic id. Using your real name gives me a sense of commitment to the cause and not idle comments from the sidelines. -

ReplyHas the city actually documented their plans, both approved and pending? I would like to see a little detail in writing, EPA, ACE, including reference numbers. There may be move initiatives in motion. I would be happy to track progress just give me a starting point.
The old adage "you can't manage what you can't measure".

ReplyI think that the following statement sums up the lack of understanding of the problem.
"In the interim between Sandy and the nor'easter last week, some of the sand had begun to return to the beaches, making them fairly healthy on regular tides. The same natural rebuilding could occur in the spring."
I walk the beach from 55-59th street on a regular basis and I do not see any improvement.

ReplyI actually think that the City administration is of the opinion that if they wait long enough, the south end issue will go away. But I think that they are unaware of our "southern" determination.

ReplyI recommend that everyone living on the south end, the area without a beach, shop in Strathmere or Sea Isle. We should not be subsidizing the sandy end of the island.

Believe it or not, I used to go sledding down the tiny hill around the house, of course this was back during the Eisenhower administration.
